Lukas was born and raised in Switzerland and completed his studies at ETH Zürich. During his undergraduate work, Lukas carried out research on the synthesis of substituted piperazines and diazepines in the laboratory of Jeffrey W. Bode, and on the total synthesis of a harzianone diterpenoid in the group of Erick M. Carreira. He then pursued his graduate studies in the Carreira group, where he worked on the total synthesis of natural products derived from Streptococcus mutans. Syntheses of natural products in the mutanofactin and mutanobactin families were successfully developed, providing key insights into the potential roles of these secondary metabolites within the human oral microbiome. Inspired by these interdisciplinary projects, Lukas is excited to join the Morstein group, where he will develop novel approaches for the selective labeling of lipids.
