Binyou grew up in Fujian, China, and earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry at Nankai University. Binyou gained his first research experience as a visiting student with Bradley Pentelute at MIT. From there Binyou went on to pursue his graduate studies under Matthew Pratt at the University of Southern California, where he developed semi-synthetic proteins to investigate post-translational modifications. During his time at USC, he developed a strong interest in using mass spectrometry to explore molecular structures and mechanisms. Upon completion of his doctoral studies in 2025, Binyou will join Caltech CCE as a postdoctoral researcher. His work will be mainly focused on using novel lipidomics approaches to advance lipid chemical biology.
